Rewilding in the Absence of Aurochs

Europe once had its own Wild Cattle much as Southeast Asia still does. Asia has its Banteng and Gaur. We had our Aurochs.

But we drove our own Wild Cattle to global extinction.

Megafauna - large wild animals like Aurochs - were key parts of European ecosystems, just as they are still in, say, the east African savanna.

In my YouTube video I briefly discuss the use of ‘wilded’ domestic cattle as surrogates for extinct Aurochs.
